birthday love.

Well, I’m finally NINETEEN! What a significant birthday… but really, what exactly can you do when you turn 19 that’s any different from 18?  I’m not sure, but I guess I’ll just be thankful that God has given me another year of life!

So when I went home for labor day weekend (which was like 2 and a half weeks ago… sorry for the late post), I got to celebrate my birthday with my family and we had a blast.  My sisters (Lauren and Erin) had spent all of this time planning and saving up their money so that they could give me a special birthday, and they definitely exceeded all expectations.  After taking me out to lunch and shopping around the mall, Lauren said, “Okay, I have to go get your surprise, so I’ll be right back” and Erin was just standing there grinning at the look on my face.  When Lauren got back, she told me to close my eyes and hold out my hand, and then she placed a movie ticket for “The Help” in my hand- what a great gift!  Not only had I been dying to see that movie, but it gave me an opportunity to hang out with my sisters so I was all for it.  And what a great movie it was!  If you haven’t seen it, you don’t know what you’re missing- it’s an amazing story.

The rest of my time at home was great, as usual.  It’s not until I go to school that I realize how much I take my time with my family for granted, but I guess that’s just the way it goes.

kate loves celebrating birthdays. :)

My actual birthday was just this past week, and I am just so grateful for the amazing friends that I have here.  When midnight finally came around, my roommate Chelsey played “Happy Birthday” on the ukelele for me and told me that I was about to have such a great day.  I had friends calling and texting me all day, and I felt so blessed to have friends who care about me enough to remember something as simple as my birthday.  Because it was a Wednesday night and most people had homework or some other obligation, I just went out to dinner with a few friends, and Chelsey helped me plan (and by helped, I mean she basically planned the whole thing) a birthday party for this past Saturday.  In my mind, I was planning on having a few close friends over to celebrate and watch a movie, but it turned out to be so, so much better than that.  Chelsey asked me who I wanted to invite, so I listed off 5 or 6 people that I thought would come, and told her that was it– but then she was like, “Well, what about so-and-so?  And what about this person?” …and so on.  On Saturday night, more than 20 people showed up to celebrate!  We had a blast, and like I’ve said so many times in this post- what a blessing to have these people in my life.  To have a group of people that can make you feel that loved is so precious, and I can’t thank God enough for bringing me to where I am at in my life right now.

the ladies... plus a few boys who managed to sneak into the background. :)

Chelsey’s birthday present to me was to take pictures of me that made me look way cooler than I actually am (because she’s an amazing photographer), so we spent our Sunday afternoon walking around campus and taking cool photos.  What a great afternoon, right?  Here are some of her amazing shots:

I have so much more to share, but I’m running short on time.  Anyway, I had an amazing birthday- SO GRATEFUL.

Have a great week!
