Saying goodbye to summer may be one of the hardest things I have to do each year, but for some reason, I am really excited for fall! What’s so great about fall, you ask? I’ll tell you.
North Carolina State Fair– I went for the first time last year and loved it! Yes, it’s a little overpriced- but the experience? Priceless. And the deep fried oreos? Worth every penny- seriously. I can’t wait to go again this year with my lovely friends!
Carolina’s Campus– This campus is beautiful all of the time, but when fall comes it is gorgeous. Something about the feel of the weather plus the look of all of the trees in the quad just makes for a major mood-booster when walking to class.
Football!– Fall is when football season really gets going. Even though Carolina basketball is where my heart truly lies, I still love cheering on my team every Saturday- especially when we’re winning, that’s always a plus. And tailgating- who would ever pass that up? You gotta love it.
Fall Break– I love going to see my family over fall break- everyone is starting to get excited for the holidays and I normally help my sisters plan their Halloween costumes, so I’m looking forward to it. And this time around I might even be working, which means I get to see all of my friends from Chick-fil-A! I miss them like crazy. Can’t wait!
Halloween on Franklin St.– If I can ever come up with a costume, I’ll probably become even more excited for this event. It’s so much fun seeing everyone’s costumes- people really get creative with it. Last year, there was a guy dressed as Forrest Gump running up and down Franklin St. all night- pretty clever, huh? I love it. And the party at Mrs. D’s is always a blast.
Pumpkin Carving– to be fair, my dad basically does the whole thing. But, I draw what I want on a piece of paper, and I enjoy what it looks like in the end- so I guess you could say I enjoy pumpkin “carving.” Oh, and I also pull all of the seeds out of my pumpkin, which is pretty tough work. But last year, my friend had a pumpkin-carving party and we used this little kit that had stencils to help you make a cool carving- I might look for that this year, so I can gain some credibility with the whole carving aspect of it all.
Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate– even though I’m more of a coffee person, I discovered this drink from Starbucks last year when I got a sinus infection. Absolutely amazing. Every time I think of fall, I think of drinking salted caramel hot chocolate in the Starbucks on Franklin St. while working on a project. Good times… minus the sinus infection.
Scarves– anyone that knows me knows that I am a sucker for scarves, and I even wear them during the summertime… but, I guess I’m excited for fall scarves- they just make everything look cooler! If I could pull off those fashionable hats that people wear during the fall, I would be all set.
Thanksgiving– I love love love Thanksgiving. It’s the point when everyone gets excited for Christmas and families come together to celebrate. It’s such a “feel-good” time of year (except for those two weeks of exams). And on Thanksgiving morning, my parents make chocolate-chip pancakes for me and my sisters and we watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Such a fun time!
Black Friday shopping– most of the time I don’t even buy anything, but it’s just fun to go. When I was younger, I used to always go shopping with my aunt and uncle while my sisters went with my family- I loved it because all of the attention was on me (it sounds bad, but so true). Anyway, it’s become a tradition and every year my aunt and uncle come down and we go shopping on Black Friday- they have a 2-year-old daughter now, so I get to hang out with her too! …which takes the attention off of me, so I guess you can say I’ve matured a little bit. …right?
Hopefully I’ve boosted some spirits about the fall weather. I am normally the first one to start complaining about how it’s getting cold, but I’m looking forward to everything that’s coming up- it’s going to be a blast! Happy fall y’all!
